Relationship Coaching

Do You Feel Alone in Your Relationship?

· Has closeness been replaced by distance, or by arguments that seem to repeat themselves?

· Do daily pressures pull you into your head to analyze the problem, instead of trusting yourself to meet it with openness and presence?

· Have major transitions — career changes, raising children, caring for others — left you over-scheduled, distracted, or running on empty?

· Are you reaching for busyness or defensiveness when what you truly long for is warmth and connection?

· Do you still long to feel deeply known and loved, starting with how openly you can meet each other right now?

Few people enter a relationship expecting to grow apart. Yet over time, conversations become more guarded, misunderstandings more frequent, and the closeness you once shared begins to fade. You may still love each other deeply, yet feel as though you're living beside one another rather than truly together.

Relationship coaching offers a space to explore not only what's happening between you, but also the deeper patterns unfolding within each of you.

From Protection to Connection

It's easy to blame poor communication, busy schedules, or personality differences. While these pressures are real, they only become major hurdles insofar as they activate deeper unconscious patterns.

Under stress, your nervous system naturally defaults to protection: you withdraw, stay constantly busy, overthink, or build subtle walls of defensiveness. What once served as a protective mechanism becomes an unconscious barrier to authentic connection and intimacy.

Ultimately, the quality of your relationship is shaped not only by how you relate with your partner, but by how you relate to yourself, your body, vulnerability, and the immediacy of this moment.

Every meaningful connection rests on the willingness to remain present — with your own experience and with another person. When protection takes the place of presence, intimacy is the cost.

The encouraging news is that these patterns are not permanent. Through relationship coaching together, you can access your innate capacity for openness and trust, creating the foundation for a relationship rooted in presence, authenticity, and love.

Even the Strongest Relationships Encounter Rough Patches

Navigating a persistent rift with a partner doesn't mean your relationship has failed. Long-term couples research suggests that much of the friction we experience isn't really about the surface disagreement — it points instead to differences in style, temperament, and early conditioning that run far deeper than the argument itself.

When daily pressure mounts, our earliest survival blueprints take the wheel. Without realizing it, we fall back on automatic self-preservation habits:

· Retreating into emotional stonewalling when a topic gets too heavy

· Turning tender conversations into intellectual debates or logistics management

· Deflecting genuine affection with humor or reflexive sarcasm

· Bracing physically — tight shoulders, shallow breathing, avoiding eye contact — the moment tension enters the room

We often try to solve these friction points by adding more control — drafting relationship ground rules, reading books on attachment style, or walking on eggshells to preserve peace. Yet these habits were never formed through logic, and they won't yield to analysis or effort alone. They are intelligent, automatic adaptations, operating well below conscious awareness.

What is remarkable is how adaptable these patterns remain. Through dedicated relationship coaching, you can move past the limits of conscious effort to dissolve these barriers, building a felt sense of mutual safety, intimacy, and lasting trust.

Rewiring Relational Dynamics from the Inside Out

Traditional counseling often centers on rehearsing better communication scripts or dissecting past arguments. Clarity helps — but understanding rarely stops an automatic emotional trigger from hijacking a quiet evening. Deeply rooted habits don't change through debate; they transform through direct experience of the innate states each unresolved pattern is holding.

In our work together, we look beneath the surface story of who said what, and focus on the lived experience underneath your friction. Working with Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Core Transformation®, and Wholeness Work®, we work with the patterns that generate relational distance directly.

What Happens During Our Sessions

Our time together creates a safe, courageous space to explore what's moving beneath your friction:

· Uncovering Automatic Patterns (NLP): We trace the precise cues and internal filters that trigger instant defensiveness or shutdown, giving you back genuine agency and freedom of choice.

· Transforming Reactive States (Core Transformation®): Rather than trying to suppress irritation, anxiety, or the urge to retreat, we welcome these reactions as guides. Clients are often surprised to discover that at the center of their most disruptive protective habits sit profound, underlying states of inner peace, deep love, and wholeness. Once these states are directly experienced, the need for protective barriers naturally fades.

· Integrating Unconscious Splits (The Wholeness Work®): We gently bring awareness to the exiled or divided structures of your inner experience, allowing you to reintegrate them back to wholeness and inhabit your body with unforced presence — ready to meet your partner openly, in the current moment.

Instead of straining to practice "better behavior," we dissolve the tension generating the problem in the first place. Closeness shifts from an elusive goal you're working toward into a natural, grounded way of being together.

Guiding people through this kind of deep change has shown me, again and again: when you stop fighting your self-defense mechanisms and meet your lived experience directly, genuine intimacy re-emerges with incredible ease.

Questions You Might Be Asking

What if my spouse or partner isn't open to coaching right now?

It is entirely possible to create profound change working individually. In fact, most of our work will be working individually. Relationships are interconnected systems — when one person stops repeating their half of an automatic dance, the whole pattern has to adjust. By transforming your own triggers, habitual defenses, and capacity to stay open, you change the relational field, often inspiring a different response from your partner without ever needing to coax or convince them.

We've already spent hours analyzing our past — how will this be any different?

Analysis happens in the conscious mind, which operates far too slowly to catch automatic emotional reactions before they happen, let alone transform them. Our sessions don't involve talking in circles or memorizing communication rules. Instead, we work directly at the level where your automatic responses organize, creating direct, felt experiences of ease that naturally carry into your day-to-day life together.

How quickly can we expect our dynamic to start shifting?

Because this approach works directly with the automatic patterns themselves, rather than offering top-level advice, clients routinely notice changes right away. It's common to feel a clear shift within one to three sessions — discovering that moments that used to spark immediate tension or withdrawal simply no longer activate the unwanted reaction.

Return to the Ease of Genuine Connection

Deep intimacy doesn't require endless processing, strict rules, or suppressing your own needs. Real closeness naturally unfolds when your conscious desires and your automatic reactions come into effortless alignment.

I offer in-person sessions in Ann Arbor, Michigan, as well as virtual sessions via Zoom for clients worldwide.
